So what could it be? Would a bad SATA cable be enough to make it seem by Windows but not usable? Is it a chipset update for the motherboard? BIOS update? I'm stuck. LG's site says not to update the firmware unless the firmware states it fixes problems with it not writing to media, not being recognized by Windows, and other similar things. Re, LG WH14NS40 - New Firmware Available by Dartman on Thu 4, 44 am Well that's certainly true but they didn't update their drives often when everyone was making media either, but at least they usually worked well outa the box. It was an OEM model and came with no software. In reality however, the firmware update appears to close. Windows also says the driver is up to date. The latest firmware for the popular LG BH16NS40, WH16NS40 and BE16NU50 Blu-ray writers should improve Ultra HD Blu-ray disc compatibility. SSD Caching is not enabled on my board since the SSD Caching connector wasn't used until I plugged in the optical drive. I am running an Asus P9X79 Pro moherboard, and the drive is plugged into the last available SATA connector on my board, which was one of the Marvell SATA connectors. This is the first time I have had a drive be recognized by the OS not not read discs. The problem is that while it shows up in Windows, and I can eject the tray from within Windows, it will not recognize any discs I put in, regardless of whether it's a commercial disc or burned disc. I just installed my new LG WH14NS40 Super Blu optical drive. Hitachi-LG Data Storagewill do our best tosatisfy our customers.
